Title: Foundational AI Models in the Life Sciences: An Illustrative Use Case Description: This MSc thesis will examine the emerging role of foundation AI models in the life sciences. The first part of the thesis will provide a structured overview of current foundation models developed for life sciences applications, such as models for protein sequences and structures, genomics, single-cell data, biomedical text, molecular representation, and medical imaging. The second and main part of the thesis will focus on an illustrative use case involving a selected foundation model and an appropriate publicly available dataset. The student will study the selected model and dataset, prepare the dataset, apply or fine-tune the model where appropriate, and evaluate its performance on a specific life-sciences task.
