Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

      English for Agricultural & Forestry Sciences is taught as a compulsory course over the first four semesters (i.e. 1st and 2nd year of studies) in both Departments of Agricultural Development and Forestry and Management of the Environment and of Natural Resources of our School.

    Its overall goal is to aid students to adequately produce oral and written language in English so that they can effectively receive and use a wide range of information, knowledge and ideas (either oral or/and written) and also develop study skills and abilities that will ensure access to life-long learning and further development in their academic field using English as the main medium of communication and academic achievement.

   On completion of the course, students are expected to have achieved the following objectives:

• know how to structure, organize and document the language they produce in English so that they can express their own ideas, emotions and personal views according to appropriate communicative circumstance
• to develop communicative strategies selecting and using appropriate vocabulary contingent on the communicative situation they participate
• to get to know a wide range of different text types in academic and ESP English so that they can appreciate their grammatical structure and vocabulary specific to each academic text type
• to develop cognitive and social capabilities that allow students to select necessary information, classify them, process them, cross-check their validity and effectively transmit them in productive and receptive tasks in English

   The suggested teaching method followed in the course will be primarily based on computer mediated instruction and students participation in communicative EFL and ESP learning tasks. Supplementary material and activities available for review and further practice will be made available through this platform.

The course is assessed via a Mid-Term (40% of the grade) [Week 6] and a Final Written Exam paper at the end of the semester (60% of the grade) [Week 13].
